I am told - 'cos I wasn't around then - that it was used as a tea room. I believe it was used between the wars and just after as such. My memory goes back to the late '50s and all I can remember is a rambling, dark and tired looking old building - quite scary to a young lad. Believe it was knocked down when the sand pit was being used as a landfill site, in the early 70s. Two new houses stand on it's footprint.

I remember Bowmans Lodge from the '50s & '60s. We used it sometimes when it was a tea room & after playing football on the adjacent heath. A middle aged couple with a son ran it. When I was a student doing a Christmas job as a postman, I used to deliver there. Unfortunately the mother of the family died relatively young from leukaemia & shortly thereafter the house was vacated. The archery connection is also reflected in Bowmans Rd., some hundreds of yards to the east & off Station Rd.
