Something for the Spring of 2009This is a featured page

Greetings one and all,

This has to be the best moment to date for the Maypole Team and the efforts in creation of the web-site

Imagine the surprise for everyone who attended at how many attended ! I felt the turnout was magnificent. Some came from afar away as Portsmouth, Huntingdon, Thanet and Hampshire. Some hadn't met in the last 40 years and some had only ever just heard of the names of others. We broke off into little groups and meandered as the will took us. After an hour or so we adjourned to the Horse and Groom at Leyton Cross. We then went our ways after about 3-4 hours. What a glorious afternoon.

There was genuine feeling between all who attended as we basked in the sunlight of our happy childhood times. For those who took some pictures please try to forward those you want to appear on the website to our E Mail address as attachments, if you can. There was much clicking of cameras so there must be quite a few out there.

I have to thank, in particular, Sheila Lusher nee Houlton. She had been very busy contacting those who did not have access to a computer. The end result as to numbers has been largely accountable to her.

All of us agreed that there should be another meeting of minds and body at some stage in the future. I anticipate it will be in the summer of next year - unless someone has another bright idea !

Here are some pics of some of the gathering who attended the 'Walkabout' on Sat 11th April.

Smile please. . . . .

The lady with me in the photograph is Pat Vass. Ex Maypole School classmate of mine. She lived in Baldwyns Park area. The names of those who came are: Eileen and Barbara Rivers, Eddie Wooldridge, Will Beck and granddaughter, Carole Slade and Donald Collins (now married), Colin and Robin Wickens with their wives, David Cruickshank, Pat, Janet and Denise Flett, Pat Davies, Jackie Smith and Husband, Frankie Gemmell (now known as Fran, please!) who was classmate of Sheila and Pat Vass. Angela Pope also arrived at the end of our sojourn, with her husband. We used to try and follow the lovebirds after Church on Sunday, when they went for a walk over the Heath. We wove romantic juvenile dreams around these two! Of course, Kim and his friend Phil were also there and please forgive me if I've forgotten anyone. I will take another look at the photographs just in case. Sorry to take so long. Have been busy answering emails from contacts made on that day.

The young lady in the black top is Will Beck's Grand daughter.
(I think he must have bribed her with an iPOD or something as she never complained a bit).

Looks like you all had a great time, wish I could have been with you. Some names of those on the photos would be handy as I haven't seen most of you for something close to 60 yrs. Make you think won.t it!! Stay well all of you until the next meeting. Regards Steve Parker.
