What a green and pleasant land this was through the eyes of LT !! We sort of remember the dignity and politeness of public transport from that by-gone age !

"We concluded that the chap on the bike is David Cruikshank. Left to right, we think they are: Ernie Gosling, Mosie Challice, Rose Challice (wife), Jackie Challice and David C. I am happy to be corrected by another reader, as this input is from my brother, although he seems very certain. Not many of 'em left, I don't suppose?
Had a lovely afternoon, reminiscing with Den".

I remember very well these fire engines, they uused to turn up at heath fires & we as young boys would race off to get to the fire & help, sometimes the firemen would supply us with canvas beaters to put out fires in the grass & that would leave them free to concentrate on the bigger stuff, occasionally we would be told to get lost, or words to that effect, but not often, mostly they appreciated our help. I have a picture of a heath fire painted by George Stockford Snr. that he gave my wife & I before we left the U.K. but it does not show a fire engine but does show the hospital tower. It is hanging in our bedroom & I often look at it & think of the good old days. Sounding like an old man now. Steve Parker
