We lived on the "new" Joydens Wood estate (Eden Close).from 1957 - 1966. I was born in 1950. The monkey puzzle tree was quite a landmark and we walked past it on the way to school every day. I have posted school photos of some people you mention - Richard Wright Rob Merriman, Owen Gemmell and Niigel Wilson. Th.e shops in the dip were also important on the way home each day, although we never had much pocket money for sweets. Happy Days .

Dear Fran, Having read your memories of Maypole etc., I can help with the name of the road where you had music lessons. It was The Dell and the place you went to was probably the Cornish home? There was a girl called Berenece (? spelling) and her sister, and they gave concerts in the Village. Miss Bolton at Dartford West Girls' lodged with the Paulins who lived in The Dell. Do you remember her little black car? Of course, all cars in those days were black! I think it was a Ford Popular. When I lived in Baldwins Road, we went to church in the grounds of Mr. Cameron (the 'squire' we called him) and the chapel had a beautiful mosaic floor. I believe it was taken up and re-set into the church when it was sited in the field at the top of the hill, coming from Baldwyns Park to the Maypole Estate. We kids used to go round the alleyway at the back of the houses in Baldwins Road and climb over the high fence into Cameron's grounds. There were chestnut trees in there. We were all quite terrified of the dog, called Bruce and I left the ribbon off one of my plaits up a tree in my agitation when one of the boys shouted, "Bruce is out!" My mum never knew the real location of the 'lost' ribbon! Happy days.
