I recall that once or twice in the late '50's I & friends investigated the house late at night ,when it was in a highly delapidated state & were disturbed by the occupant of the cottage. (Who really did the disturbing?) Later in the '60's a friend who'd emigrated to Southern Rhodesia introduced me to a lad I'd known when I was much younger, possibly at Maypole C P school , & who had himself emigrated to SR. His name was Ed Wayner & I believe that it was his family which had been the last residents of Heathwood House.

Reading about Heathwood House and the cottage has stirred a few memories. I can remember that we came across the shell of a car stored in a garage/shed once (Cortina Mk 1, I think it was?). Also In 1968, my parents took me with them to visit George Whitehead who was widowed and living in a flat on the Temple Hill Estate in Dartford.
